Before we start off; we need for taking some key measurement so that you can draft the skirt pattern. You will need measurements for your waist to hip distance and also the circumference of the waist & sides. pattern making paper is definitely recommended during creating, however you will use any gift wrapping paper that has cutting lines around the back of the paper. Such gift wrapping paper can be located at any major shop, such as Walmart or even Target.
During the demonstration I'll use a sharpie, but I usually do not recommend doing so for your own personel pattern. I’m only by using a sharpie so the video can pick-up the lines. Using a thicker marker will create 1/16 or 1/8” on your pattern and probably throw over actual skirt pattern size. The basic skirt pattern will probably be drafted as 1/4 on the body. This a straight skirt and may be any length you wish. The waist along with hip measurements requires some ease regarding movement.
Once your essential skirt pattern is drafted it'll be transferred onto muslin for the final fitting. Muslin is an ordinary weave cotton materials. You may exchange 100% mid-weight cotton if muslin is not available. Transfer all markings, such as the actual darts, hipline and notches onto the fabric.
Once the skirt will be sewn together on the side seams, leave an opening with the center back. The center back are going to be pinned together on the seam allowance to help keep the skirt constantly in place during the installing. The hipline and hem have to be parallel to the bottom. If you observe swaying or warping around the skirt, then you should do the following. Unpin the skirt, and check to make certain the skirt was cut around the straight grain. The straight grain would be the center front as well as center back of this skirt. Place the straight edge in the clear ruler on the straight edge associated with center back or maybe front. Look through the ruler to note if the grains for the skirt are down. If the grains usually are jagged or looked crooked and don’t align using the lines on the ruler then your skirt will need to placed on a new muslin and your grain line should be straight before it’s cut with the fitting.
